Hampshire Road Race League - Hayling 10
Farnham Runners Press Release - 27/11/05
Eleven Farnham Runners braved a cold, dull November day to take part in the Hayling 10 miler. Two out and back sections allowed some enthusiastic club support among the runners in this Hampshire league road race.
Graham Wilton used the race to motivate himself again after his recent excellent marathon performance to come in comfortably inside the hour (59.08, 39th, 17th M40). Steve Murphy took 2 minutes off his Great South run time (1.03.56, 82nd) while David Lloyd (1.05.33) was delighted to deduct 5 minutes from his previous best. Tim Cummins (1.18.10) took fourth team slot to secure 9th place in Division One for the Farnham club.
Don Melvin (1.19.13), Steve Payne (1.25.29) and John Applebee (1.36.37) made a valuable contribution to the “B” team result.
For the ladies Jane Georghiou was content with 1.07.54 (14th lady, 3rd W45) after a half marathon in 1.29.21 the previous weekend. Julie Russ is racing back to fitness (1.29.03) while Emma Douen (1.35.47) and Helen Cathie (1.36.37) made a very welcome debut for the club, the team finishing 4th in Division Two.
Mike Rix, taking a break from triathlons, ran 37.42 in the Brighton 10km, followed by Mike Young, who was pleased to break 45 minutes again (44.38).
Jane Georghiou swapped her Farnham strip for an England vest after being selected for the four strong W50 team in the British and Irish Masters cross-country championships in Dublin on November 12th. She took second place in the silver medal winning team and finished as 6th W50 overall.
